UPDATE: And here we thought they were downsizing to one host! Guess not. The day after Brooke's departure was announced, sources confirmed to multiple outlets that DWTS Season 10 alum Erin Andrews will replace Brooke as co-host. Your thoughts on this?
Brooke Burke-Charvet, winner of Dancing With the Stars Season 7 and co-host since Samantha Harris left in 2010, will not be by Tom Bergeron’s side for the spring 2014 Season 18.
Brooke tweeted about the change late Friday, February 21: “weird day….Shocking pre-season elimination #DWTS…ME. @Tom_Bergeron didn't even read my name. I won't be returning to the show this season.”
Well, DWTS does love a good twist and this is one they hadn’t tried in a while. Brooke shared more details in a statement to E! News:
"I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting DWTS but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture. I've always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn't able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I've seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake."
It sounds like this was a true Survivor-style blindside. DWTS Season 18 starts on Monday, March 17 and ABC just announced that the new cast will be revealed Tuesday, March 4 on Good Morning America. The big announcement was something Tom and Brooke usually did together, but now maybe Tom will go solo (or with Erin Andrews?).
This is just the latest change for DWTS. We lost the Results Show last fall, they just fired the longtime band and hired a new one, and now we've lost Brooke.
Brooke touched on the “need for change” considering the show at this point, and it does seem like DWTS is rebooting its image in the wake of its dip in the ratings. If they’re going to change/downsize the band they’ve had from the beginning, it does make sense that they would also question whether the show needs two hosts. (Unless they aren't ditching the second host, they are replacing Brooke with fellow DWTS alum Erin, as this rumor suggests.) Once they lost the Celebriquarium, Brooke didn’t even have her own space for post-dance Q&A, so … this news isn't too shocking, but it’s still a loss. Brooke will always be part of the DWTS family and we’ll miss her gorgeous presence in the ballroom.
After the news broke, DWTS Executive Producer Conrad Green told On the Red Carpet, "We can confirm that Brooke Burke-Charvet will not be joining us next season. She's been a wonderful part of the 'Dancing with the Stars' family since her triumphant win in season seven and will unquestionably be missed by our entire team. We'd like to thank Brooke for her years of great service."
Are you shocked by Brooke’s pre-season elimination? What other surprises are coming?!
