Sad news: Brooke Shields’s mother, Teri Shields, passed away on October 31 after a battle with an illness related dementia.
Teri served as Brooke’s manager when Brooke broke into modeling and acting at a very young age, and the momager was the target of criticism over some of her daughter’s racier roles and assignments — notably Brooke’s part as a child prostitute in the 1978 film Pretty Baby and the controversial Calvin Klein commercials she appeared in at age 14.
Brooke, now 47, broke up with her mother on a professional level in 1995, telling Rolling Stone (via The Associated Press), "I had hopes and dreams, and I wasn't doing anything to go toward them. The focus was on creating a persona rather than a talent."
In a statement released after Teri's passing (via E! Online), Brooke shares, "My mother was an enormous part of my life and of who I am today. I loved her, laughed with her, and respected her. And although she had her share of struggles, she was my mom."
