Andy Samberg’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine Gets Full Season, Prime Super Bowl Spot
Somewhere Andy Samberg is doing a victory dance (we hope it’s on a boat with Justin Timberlake). The former Saturday Night Live star got some good news to start off his weekend: Fox wants a full season of Andy’s police sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine!
In fact, Fox is so supportive of the channel’s new show they’re pairing it up with fan favorite New Girlin a “special one-hour comedy event” airing immediately after Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday, February 2. Touchdown, Andy!
Whenever stars decide to leave the SNL nest, it’ always hit or miss on if their talent will translate to a wider audience. There have been some major high-flyers — Will Ferrell, Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, to name an illustrious few — and others who never caught quite as much air.
Andy tickled the country’s funny bone with his Digital Shorts and impromptu Lonely Island concerts so it’s great to see him succeed away from Lorne Michaels’s tender embrace.
As Fox president Kevin Reilly put it: “It’s exciting to see that both critics and fans love Brooklyn Nine-Nine as much as we do. With Andy and Andre [Braugher] out in front of this incredible ensemble, it feels like this show is going to be around for a long time.”
Are you surprised by Fox’s decision to pick up Brooklyn Nine-Nine or are you already a huge fan of the show? We’re all ears. Sound off in the comments below.
