Pretty Little Liars Burning Question: Can Ali Be Redeemed?
Don’t get us wrong — we’re overjoyed that Pretty Little Liars resident queen of mean, Alison DiLaurentis (Sasha Pieterse), faked her death and is actually alive, well, and on-the-run, but we don’t think that clears her of all of the wrongdoing she has done in the past. Today, we take a step back from our relief and ask the question: Can Alison be redeemed?
We’ve taken the liberty of compiling a list of some of Ali’s most harmful actions:
blackmailing Byron Montgomery
coercing Spencer into telling Melissa she kissed Ian
kissing Emily, then telling her it was “just practice”
pushing some sorority girl down the stairs
...then getting CeCe kicked out of college for it
blinding Jenna with a firecracker
regularly manipulating, lying to, and all-out scamming her alleged BFFs
And those are just a few of Ali’s most favorite things. Sometime, we forget how bad of a person Alison was because the Liars love her so darn much. But, she was kind of the worst. We’re not saying the girl deserved to be pretend-murdered, but we kind of understand why someone (or everyone) would be after her. And, we’re not sure if Alison can come back from all of the horrible things she has done...
Here’s the thing: we kind of like to believe that anyone can be redeemed (amirite, Klaus Mikaelson?) — and Alison is no exception. Sure, she’s done a lot of crazily terrible stuff to her loved ones and enemies alike, but that doesn’t mean she is unredeemable. Especially because she has saved the Liars’ lives many a time since her disappearance. Perhaps, Alison’s redemption started when “A” started terrorizing her and she realized just how harmful the kind of emotional (and physical) terrorism she frequently engaged in can be. We’d like to think that Alison has seen the error of her ways, and is ready to start being a good person. Starting with being the kind of friend the Liars totally deserve after putting up with years of Alison’s shenanigans.
It may be too soon to tell if Alison’s redemption is possible. There’s so much about her that we don’t know, including, just how did she fake her own death and why is Ezra so bent on finding her? We haven’t completely ruled out the possibility that “murder” is the answer to both of those questions. After all, someone’s dead body was found and identified as Alison’s -- that corpse had to come from somewhere. And, Ezra seems really dedicated to finding Ali. Sure, he could be some kind of crazy stalker, but thus far, we’ve seen Ezra exhibit way more good guy behavior than Alison ever has. Just saying.
Do you think Alison has a chance at redemption? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below!
