Pretty Little Liars Burning Question: Did Mrs. DiLaurentis Bury Ali to Save Jason?

This week’s episode of Pretty Little Liars brought us into the DiLaurentis home and family. But with Mr. DiLaurentis gone and Alison presumed dead but secretly on the run, it’s just Mrs. DiLaurentis (Andrea Parker) and Jason (Drew Van Acker) who are left in Rosewood, and boy, are they acting sketchy! Did Mrs. D. bury Ali to save Jason?

In the promo for the Season 4 finale, we hear Alison tell the Liars "She thought that I was dead" as we watch someone fill in the grave Ali is lying immobile in. Yikes! So, Ali was aware of what was happening when she was being buried alive, and she knows who did it. When the Liars asked Ali if her mother knew she was alive, Alison freaked out and insisted they not tell her anything. It sounded like she was afraid of her mother, and we’d say getting buried alive by her would definitely qualify as a catalyst for that fear. This would also explain why Alison didn’t go to her mother after she was pulled from that grave by Mrs. Grunwald, instead choosing to run away.

Of course, even if Mrs. DiLaurentis buried Alison, that doesn’t mean she was the one who hit her over the head with a shovel. But who would she go so far to protect? Who would she sacrifice her daughter’s proper burial for — perhaps, only another child would qualify? We know that Jason used to think he had something to do with Ali’s disappearance, as he couldn’t remember what happened that night. Did Mrs. DiLaurentis also believe Jason was responsible for Ali’s presumed murder? Was Jason the one to find Ali lying unconscious after someone else attacked her, then went to get his mother?

This explanation would also explain why Jason is so intent on defending his mother. She sacrificed his sister (or at least closure and the truth surrounding her “death”) for him. In some way, she chose Jason over Alison. If Jason still believes he murdered Ali, then how could he not feel guilty about the entire situation? Even if he no longer believes himself responsible, that doesn’t negate the fact that his mother still chose to protect him. He might even feel worse now that he knows he wasn’t the one to kill Ali (or, more accurately, attack her) — he took away their chance at finding out what really happened that night.

Do you think Mrs. DiLaurentis was the one to bury Alison alive? Do you think she did it for Jason? Sound off in the comments below!
