This possibility may seem extreme, but this situation is extreme — even within the fictional world of PLL. We don’t want to believe that Alison is capable of taking another person’s life, but we don’t really know that much about her. She was extremely secretive — and, often, unfeeling — towards her friends. Basically, we’re not ready to rule out murder. Question is: who? Was it someone Ezra and Ali both knew that summer on Cape May — possibly, Ali’s own twin? Possibly, a member of Ezra’s family? Though we have met Ezra’s mother and brother, that family is definitely hiding something. Could it have been the untimely (and covered up) death of one of its members?
Ezra doesn’t seem the materialistic sort, but he does love that typewriter. (We kid!) Could Ali have stolen something from Ezra? Something he needs or that has substantial and sentimental value? Perhaps, a large sum of money he needs back. More likely, a family heirloom or a locket of hair from a tragic love affair he had in his youth. OK, probably not the latter, but it’s hard to speculate about this sort of thing. Ezra is, apparently, an enigma.
Broke his heart
Now, we think launching a manhunt complete with tech-heavy lair is a bit of an extreme reaction to a bad breakup, but some people deal better than others. We know that Ali had a fling with “Board Shorts” the summer she was on Cape May. Was Ezra “Board Shorts” and did she break his heart? If so, get over it, dude.
Had his child
Another possible component to the Board Shorts scenario is that Ali was pregnant with Ezra’s child — and had it. That’s why she disappeared into the night and stayed away for so long: to hide the pregnancy. If somehow Ezra found out about it, we can imagine he would be desperate to find Ali and the baby. We’re not sure how we would feel about this development — it might be a little too much, even for us. But, it would theoretically explain the inclusion of the Maggie/Malcolm storyline in Season 4A. Foreshadowing!
Alison has always been a schemer, using information she gathers on people to make them do exactly what she wants. Sometimes, those people deserve it. Sometimes, she just wants to get her own way. Has she been pulling a similar deal on Ezra, perhaps to use him as her own personal spy in Rosewood? If so, it would explain his desire to find her: so he could steal whatever blackmail information she is holding over his head, liberating himself from her control.
What — if anything — do you think Ali did to Ezra to instigate his search for her? Sound off in the comments below!
