Ravenswood has just one more episode in its five-episode fall run — Season 1, Episode 5 (“Scared to Death”) — set to air next week. What can we expect from the fall finale? Ravenswood showrunner Marlene King took to Twitter to tease the climactic episode, including the return of a character we first saw in the Season 4 Halloween episode of Pretty Little Liars.
Who is Max?
“Next week on Ravenswood, Hanna Marin and Max! U know Max, you saw her in the Halloween episode of PLL. She was wearing a red coat! #Creepy,” tweeted Marlene on November 12. We’re guessing Max is one of the two spooky, red-coated twins Hanna kept seeing. From the back. Eventually, they turn around and Hanna realizes that they are not Alison and her evil twin, Courtney. Probably.
Is she a ghost?
Knowing what we now know about Ravenswood, we’re furiously trying to recollect if these two girls interacting with anything corporeal besides one another in the Halloween ep. Hanna only ever saw them in the Ravenswood cemetery, which seems to be ghost HQ in Ravenswood. Could Max be a ghost herself? After all, Hanna seemed to be the only Liar who ever noticed the girls. It was almost a running gag throughout the entire episode, as Hanna kept willing her friends to react to their creepy, Shining-esque presence. This theory is further supported by what we see of Max in the promo for Episode 5. In it, we see ringleted little Max acting super sketchy: coming out of her hiding place in a closet, looking under the bed for someone, and giggling hauntingly.
Who will she be hanging with?
If our theory that Max is a ghost is correct, we think she will be spending a majority of her time creeping Miranda out. The synopsis for the episode tells us: “Miranda tries to prove that she’s where she wants to be, but Caleb senses she’s in grave danger.” And, in the promo, we see Miranda in a well-lit, room with her mother, Lilah. Is this the place on the other side of the door Lilah led Miranda through at the end of last night’s episode? We think Max might be there, too, judging by her closet-hiding and bed-looking-undering.
Having said that, we think the rest of the Ravenswood gang might get the chance to meet Miranda, too. Not only does Caleb seem to have some knowledge of this place — in the promo, he tells the others, “Miranda thinks she’s safe, but she isn’t” — which implies he is still chatting with Miranda, but we think Max (and possibly other benevolent spirits) might trap the gang in the cemetery. In the final glimpse we get of her, she asks, “Wanna play?” Always answer no to that question, Ravenswood gang!
How do you think Max figures into Episode 5? Do you think she is good or evil? Sound off in the comments below!
