Pretty Little Liars Burning Question: Will “A” Go After Ezra?

Ezra (Ian Harding) might not be “A” on Pretty Little Liars, but that doesn’t mean he’s not wrapped up in the “A” game. In fact, we’re worried the teacher-slash-author might be the mystery villain’s next target. Will “A” go after Ezra?

Yes, he’s getting too close

If Ezra has sacrificed his relationship with Aria, his career as a teacher, and his integrity in the name of investigating and writing this book, then he better have something to show for it -- and we think he might. Spencer seemed to glean something from the few notes of Ezra she managed to get her hands on, and that’s saying something given that Spencer has already done extensive research into who “A” is and what happened to Ali before she disappeared. We think Ezra might be close to figuring out who Ali’s mystery tormenter is — and “A” obviously won’t stand for that. We think Ezra is in serious danger.

Yes, he can still be used against Aria

“A” is an expert at using the people the Liars love against them. Sure, Aria kind of wants to kill Ezra herself, but we still think she somehow loves him. And we think, if asked to do something to save Ezra’s life, she will. We also think that this show has a long way to go to redeem Ezra for all of the sketchy things he’s done — i.e. watching the girls without their awareness or permission, lying to Aria about who he is and why he is in Rosewood, and knowingly getting involved with a high school student. We don’t think playing him off as the victim is a good way to get that redemption, but it is a good way to garner sympathy for his character, and that might be the show’s way of starting his character down a path of redemption.

No, he’s a useful distraction

Ezra has been a hugely successful distraction for “A.” While the Liars have spent their time and energy uncovering his secret, they’ve been distracted from finding the real “A.” Now that they know Ezra isn’t the villain they thought him to be, they will hopefully point their investigation in a more promising direction, but the aftermath of the Ezra reveal has crippled Aria and, to a lesser extent, the other Liars. As long as they’re busy trying to work through their feels concerning the betrayal by their trusted teacher, friend, or lover, Ezra is still useful as a distraction.
