Pretty Little Liars Burning Question: Will Melissa Die?

In this week’s Pretty Little Liars, Melissa Hastings (Torrey DeVitto) confessed her crimes via a video to Spencer (Troian Bellisario). This move simultaneously piqued our curiosity about what secrets she may have revealed in the yet-to-be-seen vid, and made us concerned for Melissa’s life. Now that she’s spilled her secrets, will Melissa die?

Yes, in the Summer Finale

It’s a known fact that characters are killed off in mid-season and season finales and guess what?! PLL just happens to have a summer finale just two episodes away. Not only that, but it’s been billed as a “#fAtalfinale.” With the video message Melissa recorded in the last episode, as well as her insistence that it’s not safe for her in Rosewood, she just moved to the top of our list of likely deaths. Melissa has always had an honored position on aforementioned list. After all, she is one of the final N.A.T. Club members to still be alive. Both Garrett and Ian have suspiciously died. Could the N.A.T. Club Killer have finally decided it’s Melissa’s time to die?

If Melissa isn’t a target for her part in the N.A.T. Club, then she’s probably a target for whatever she knows about the murder of Bethany Young. In last season’s finale, it was strongly implied that Melissa whispered the identity of the killer into her father’s ear. Was this what she confessed on the video to Spencer? Will the person she’s, until now, protected be the one to take her life? We’ve seen PLL’s familiar mantra “Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead” put into action more than once on this show. We think Melissa may be its next implementation.

No, She Will Be the Killer

We’ve never thought of Melissa as prey; she tends to be the predator. If someone’s going down in the summer finale, we wonder if it won’t be at Melissa’s hand. A cornered Melissa is a dangerous Melissa. We think she may have killed Wilden both to protect Spencer and free herself from his blackmailing pressure. What if the #fAtalfinale in the summer finale is caused by Melissa? This speculation casts an interesting perspective on Melissa’s video confession to Spencer. It’s possible that, rather than confessing a crime she had already committed or witnessed, Melissa was confessing a crime she is about to commit. Perhaps it is even a crime that she doesn’t expect to return from, a confrontation that could end in her death as easily as it could another’s. But do we really want to bet against Melissa?

Do you think Melissa will die? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below!
