New California Law Increases Access to Abortion — Do You Agree?

California has made a giant leap forward in women's reproductive rights. This forward-thinking state just signed new legislation into law that allows more medical practitioners to perform first-trimester abortions, drastically increasing women's access to abortion in the process. The law allows nurse practitioners, physicians assistants and midwives to perform abortions (not just doctors!), which means women who want to terminate their pregnancies will have many more options.

Like most states, access to abortion in California depends on where you live. Some clinics could be as close as 50 miles away (or less), while others could be as far as 150 miles away. However, this new legislation makes it significantly easier for women in rural areas to access abortion, as the procedure will no longer be performed by just doctors.

It goes without saying that California's new law is controversial — many people don't believe in abortion at all, while some think it should only be legal if the mother was raped or if her life is at risk. However, it's hardly a surprise that California passed such a measure considering that it tends to be an extremely liberal state.

Do you think this law should be passed in other states so that women in rural America have better access to abortion, or are you opposed to California's newest reproductive legislation? Hit the poll and weigh in!
