Arizona and Eliza’s relationship has been exposed in Grey’s Anatomy Season 13, and according to Jessica Capshaw, it may be harder for them to date in the open than it was to do so behind closed doors.

But if this “Elizona” storyline makes you wistful for Arizona’s previous ship, the actress is also talking about the prospect of Callie coming back.

Three weeks ago on Grey’s, Richard found out about Arizona and Eliza’s nascent romance when he walked in on the two women after they had slept together. (Literally, they were snoozing.)

He was duly upset, Arizona being his friend and Eliza being his rival. And in last week’s episode, Arizona told Bailey about her Eliza fling to explain why Richard was so mad.

Now that Arizona and Eliza’s romance is a matter of public record at Grey Sloan Memorial, it’s real in a way it wasn’t before, as Jessica tells TVLine.

“They have to see what happens when they actually have a relationship — the sex and the commitment, versus no commitment,” she says. “What are they now?”

This Elizona hookup will likely come as a shock to Arizona’s other coworkers, many of whom are loyal to Richard. But Jessica says Eliza isn’t the villain some of the surgeons think she is.

“She’s just representing a threat to Dr. Webber, who everyone loves, so it’ll probably become a little more apparent who Eliza is in the scheme of things and what she’s about,” the 40-year-old explains.

So is Eliza this pediatric surgeon’s One True Pairing? The answer probably depends on whether Sara Ramirez ever returns to the show. (Don’t forget, when she announced her May 2016 departure, the Callie Torres actress said she wanted “some welcome time off.”)

“I feel like nothing is impossible,” Jessica says. “There’s a great chance that she would come back for something.”

Unfortunately for Calzona shippers, ABC may have screwed themselves out of getting Sara back on Grey’s.

In the time since she came out as bisexual in October, she has become even more of an LGBT activist — she has railed against a bi joke in one ABC show and apparent bi erasure in another.

Plus, Sara thinks leaving Grey’s was the best choice she ever made, so we don’t think she’s banging down the doors of The Prospect Studios to get back on the Grey’s set.

So whether or not you like Eliza, you may have to get accustomed to the idea of Arizona and her new relationship being endgame… assuming they can get above their current challenges!
