If you’ll remember, Julianne initially told Christina she wanted to see a softer side instead of the same strong, sexy, fierce woman. Then she challenged Mark’s side-by-side Foxtrot choreography, saying she wants to see Christina shine. “I've danced with Mark and you have to stand in front to make sure you're seen,” she critiqued.
Carrie Ann first said Julianne was one of the best guest judges they’ve ever had, explaining, “Julianne brought a nice perspective to the panel since she herself knows exactly what it’s like to be on the other side of the panel, and she gave great constructive criticisms while supporting her fellow professionals. Of course, I missed Len, but I have to admit, the panel felt good last night. There was an easy flow between the three of us.”
Carrie Ann later weighed in on Julianne’s judging of her brother, Derek Hough. “Amber and Derek. That was an interesting moment. I received many messages on my Twitter and Facebook this week, with people asking how Julianne could be impartial to her brother, Derek. But the truth of the matter is that we don’t judge the professional dancers, we only judge the celebrity. She was never going to be judging her brother, so it was always going to be okay. But I could tell that was a nerve-wracking moment for everyone.” Then again, Julianne did judge her old childhood friend/dance partner Mark...
All in all,. it seems like Carrie Ann just isn’t feeling it with Christina. “Christina and Mark did fine, but I don’t feel like we are getting to know her. She sometimes gets lost in the background. She’s strong and their routines are really creative; however, she is sometimes a bit forgettable,” Carrie Ann wrote. “I wish I could explain why this is happening, but I hope they sort it out because it is so important to make a strong impression to the at-home viewers who vote. It may be that she hasn’t really gone outside her comfort zone. Every routine has some sort of cool modern twist, which is so much of her comfort zone.”
Personally, we haven’t forgotten about Christina. Part of what makes Mark and Christina memorable as a couple is Mark’s creative choreography. There are a lot of buzzy pairs this season, but Christina and Mark have been standing out just for their dancing, not for sexual chemistry, injuries, underdog triumphs, or other heartfelt stories.
