The wait is over! Dancing With the Stars Season 18 has a new band, a new co-host, and now a new cast. Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews made their tag-team debut March 4 on Good Morning America to reveal 12 celebs for the spring 2014 season, including the final "surprise" couple of Derek Hough and Paralympic snowboarder Amy Purdy.
Here are the 12 pairs:
Danica McKellar and Val Chmerkovskiy
Cody Simpson and Witney Carson
Billy Dee Williams and Emma Slater
Diana Nyad and Henry Byalikov
NeNe Leakes and Tony Dovolani
James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd
Sean Avery and Karina Smirnoff
Drew Carey and Cheryl Burke
Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas
Charlie White and Sharna Burgess
Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
Amy Purdy and Derek Hough
What do you think? Right off the bat, you can see major changes in the pro lineup — including the return of Maks, plus first-time chances for troupers Witney and Henry. But the celeb cast is pretty similar to the athlete/pop star/reality star/nostalgia star lineup we see every year, even if it’s a bit surprising to see both gold-medal-winning Olympic ice dancers in the ballroom, plus Amy as an opportunity for five-time champ Derek to really show his teaching prowess. Can he win again?
And what do you think of "The Switch" twist Derek mentioned on GMA? At some point in the competition, everyone in the cast is going to switch partners, and viewers will be in charge of the new partnerships. That could be very interesting...
Sound off on everything below — and stay tuned for our cast and pro polls, plus more information on the new faces.
DWTS Season 18 premieres Monday, March 17 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. That’s St. Patrick’s Day and, ironically, we’ll be spending it without our Lucky Charm Tristan MacManus. (Why, DWTS, why?!)
