If you think The Vampire Diaries romances are hard to keep track of on-screen, just try to keep straight all of the TVD cast members who have dated each other off-screen. Here is a round-up of the TVD real-life romances that have sparked since production started on our favorite supernatural romance drama.
You may have to live under a gossip-repelling rock to not know that these two on-screen lovers were also an off-screen couple until recently. Ian Somerhalder (Damon) and Nina Dobrev (Elena) went hot and heavy for three years before breaking up in May 2013. They still seem close, though, working closely together on set, and exchanging supportive tweets over the Interweb: “The world is a better place because you are in it…” Nina tweeted at Ian last month.
Candice Accola & Steven R. McQueen
Caroline Forbes and Little Gilbert?! Yep. Back in 2010, Candice Accola and Steven R. McQueen were spotted making out at a club in Catalina, California, and the two were hot and heavy for a while until Steven got friendly with Hillary Harley, a Vampire Diaries production assistant, and Candice moved on to another co-star — Zach Roerig!
It seems like lifetimes ago that Caroline and Matt were an on-screen item, but you may or may not be aware that their off-screen counterparts Candice Accola and Zach Roerig were an off-screen item, too! Candice is now engaged to be married to The Fray guitarist Joe King, but she dated Zach throughout 2011 before the couple called it quits in May 2012 (apparently, May is a dangerous month for TVD’s off-screen couples).
Paul Wesley’s broody vampire Stefan Salvatore and Torrey DeVitto’s recurring Dr. Meredith Fell didn’t get much on-screen time together, but in real life, these two TVD actors were married. The two enjoyed an adorable, relatively private marriage for two years before calling it quits this past July. According to a rep, the split was “amicable.”
As much as we’d like to keep Joseph Morgan for ourselves, we can’t help but smile whenThe Originalsstar talks about girlfriend Persia White. (Persia played Bonnie’s witch vamp mother on TVD.) Late last month, he opened up to Huffington Post Live about the romance, saying, “You know, I’m very happy, it’s great. I’m lucky enough, she came with me to New York to enjoy a little bit of the city. I get the weekend off so we get to experience a little of that. But that’s all I’m going to put out there, I’m going to keep the rest for myself.” Aww. These two still seem to be going strong!
