50 Shades of Grey Casting: Kate Kavanagh to be Played by Miley Cyrus Co-Star

50 Shades of Grey may not qualify as a romantic comedy (unless bondage makes you laugh...) but any good Hollywood romance needs a go-to girlfriend for the leading lady to lean on. In the case of 50 Shades, the plum role of Kate Kavanagh, Anastasia Steele’s roommate, goes to actress Eloise Mumford, as reported by Variety.

Twenty-seven-year-old Eloise is originally from Washington State, where 50 Shades is set. She’s previously appeared in the short-lived ABC series The River and alongside Miley Cyrus in the 2012 movie So Undercover. Eloise was also the understudy for Mad Men’s Elisabeth Moss for the Broadway play Speed-the-Plow. Oh and, in case you’re wondering, no, she’s not affiliated with that one really famous band with a bunch of sons.

In the movie, Eloise will play Kate, Ana’s outgoing, high-achieving, and privileged college roomie. Kate is also the love interest of Christian Grey’s (Jamie Dornan) adopted brother, Elliot Grey (Luke Grimes). Luke has previously starred on True Blood and isn’t exactly hard on the eyes. Enjoy, Eloise.

Variety reports the role was one of the top priorities for the 50 Shades crew, but casting for Kate got put on hold after the upset of Charlie Hunnam dropping out of the role of Christian. Now that Jamie Dornan is squared away in that important position, the filmmakers have been able to return their attention to the rest of the cast. It’s great news, since the sooner the spots are filled, the faster we get to the movie!
