Fifty Shades of Grey Casting: True Blood’s Luke Grimes Will Play Elliot Grey
The big-screen adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey inches ever closer to realization today, October 25, with the news that the producers have cast Christian Grey's brother, Elliot.
Varietyreports that Luke Grimes, a 29-year-old American actor last seen on True Blood, will fill the role.
Kate Kavanaugh, protagonist Anastasia Steele's best friend, flirts with Elliot in the story — the first of novelist E.L. James's erotic trilogy.
Luke played Ryan Lafferty in 22 episodes of the ABC family drama Brothers & Sisters, the illegitimate son of the deceased patriarch.
In True Blood, he portrayed the soulful and sexy vampire James in Season 6. He's set to reprise the role in the HBO hit's final season next year, assuming there's no scheduling conflict with this new Grey gig.
His most high-profile movie role was in 2012's Taken 2, playing the boyfriend of Liam Neeson's character's daughter. He also stars in All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, which is finally hitting theaters this year after premiering at Sundance in 2006.
Clearly Christian isn't the only one we'll be lusting after, but our crush on Luke will have to remain a fantasy, as he has a girlfriend. In real life, Luke dates actress Gillian Zinser, who celebrated her 28th birthday on the same day the casting announcement for her boyf went public. Gillian starred on the reboot of 90210 as Ivy Sullivan before leaving the show prior to its fifth season.
With news of the other three central roles already in the books, it seems that all we have left is Anastasia Steele's best friend Kate left to think about.
Perhaps Luke's real life girlfriend would like a shot at the job? Blake Lively's name has been thrown about quite a bit to play Ana's gorgeous roomie, and we would definitely be on board with that.
Luke's addition to the project sounds like fifty shades of great casting to us, but what do you think? Elliot Grey is supposed to be older than Christian, but Luke is 29 to Jamie Dornan's 31...
