It wouldn't be a Castle season finale without a massive cliffhanger, and according to show creator Andrew Marlowe, that's exactly what we're going to get.

Fans have theorized about the finale cliffhanger for weeks now, drawing up all kinds of crazy scenarios, from Rick Castle being related to the sniper who shot Kate Beckett, to the entire season being just a dream.

According to, one thing is almost certain: Unlike last season, no one's life will be on the line. Whew. That's a relief, right?

Well, not exactly. Although not a matter of life or death, what happens between our will-they-or-won't-they leads will leave us hungry for more all summer long.

"The way we're ending this season, people will want to know what happens in the immediate aftermath," he said.

In the immediate aftermath of, say, their first sexy hookup? Because that would make us really happy.

Original Air Date: Castle's Season 4 finale, "Always," will air on Monday, May 7, 2012 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
