It hasn't been an easy year for Castle's Kate Beckett. Not only has the detective dealt with the physical and emotional trauma of a near-fatal shooting, but she has also been struggling with her feelings for her partner-in-crime-solving, Rick Castle.

All things considered, Kate has made significant progress — thanks to Javier Esposito, who helped her overcome PTSD, and her therapist, Dr. Burke, who is helping Kate break down the walls that prevent her from enjoying meaningful and emotionally-fulfilling relationships.

Although we haven't seen her doctor in recent episodes, show creator Andrew Marlowe assures us Kate is still visiting him on a regular basis.

"Beckett is somebody who has never worn her heart on her sleeve and we’ve known that she’s been working on some of these issues behind-the-scenes," he told Give Me My Remote.

"We know that she’s been seeing her therapist, we know that she’s been making progress, and those are some issues that we’ve dealt with and we will continue to deal with leading up to the finale."

In Season 4, Episode 21: "Headhunters," airing on April 16, we'll see Beckett return to Dr. Burke's office to discuss the recent changes in Castle's behavior. Although we know the cause of Rick's emotional absence — he doesn't think his feelings for Beckett are reciprocated because she never admitted to hearing him say "I love you" — the detective has no idea why he's suddenly pulling away.

The conversation with Dr. Burke is also "about her coming to grips with what she wants," Marlowe added. "What she’s ready for."
