With Castle’s Season 5 finale right around the corner, Caskett ‘shippers have been saying a silent prayer (or 10) for the unpredictable future of Castle and Beckett’s relationship. Here at Wetpaint Entertainment we’ve been so stressed that the only cure was talking to an expert.

So Wetpaint Entertainment spoke with actress Molly Quinn (Alexis Castle) about the upcoming finale and her character’s role on the show thus far. Here’s what she had to say:

Wetpaint Entertainment: Castle recently celebrated its 100th episode. What was it like to be part of that milestone?

Molly Quinn: It was such a magical moment. When it came to that milestone, I remember going down between scenes and being like, “OK, let’s kind of get this over with so we can get back to work.” But this one point, we’re all standing there taking pictures and I look over at my mom and I just realize everything that she had sacrificed and everything that we had all accomplished and the tears just started to flow. I was just so grateful that we had come this far and that on a personal level, that my whole family had allowed me to do this and had supported my dream and that it had amounted to something. I didn’t think it was going to turn into anything, but it became extremely emotional.

Your storyline was front and center in the mid-season climax. What was that like?

It was thrilling and maddening at the same time. I really realized how hard Nathan [Fillion] and Stana [Katic] work. It’s different to show up every day instead of once or twice a week for your part on Castle. It’s a lot more work and very gratifying. I was honored that Andrew [Marlowe] and all the writers gave me that opportunity to be more featured. I hope I did them proud because I absolutely loved doing it.

There’s been references made to your new boyfriend, and at one point Andrew Marlowe (the show creator) suggested that it might be a professor. Can we expect to see any of that come up soon?

I wish. I really wish. I’ll have to talk to Andrew about that. I’ve been definitely floating around the professor storyline for a while, and I think it would be absolutely awesome. So that would be a nice little fantasy of mine come true and a fun storyline for the fans as well, so fingers crossed.

Castle’s head would probably explode.

Probably! But hey, maybe he’d be too preoccupied with Beckett to even notice for a little while.

Speaking of their relationship, promos for the finale have Caskett ‘shippers very nervous. Do we have reason to worry about their relationship?

None of our lives are mapped out. So really we’re at the point where we’re at a fork in the road. Either way has challenges and has greatness ahead of it. I hope that they would stay together, but at the same time, I could understand why Beckett would want to go her separate way. I do need to say that it would be Beckett deciding to go the separate way because Castle is completely 100 percent invested in their relationship. So really it’s hinging on Detective Kate Beckett.

And if they do decide to stay together, can Alexis expect to become a big sister next season?

[Laughs] Hmm, I do not know how Alexis would handle that. Alexis has been the lonely only for a very long time. She is used to being the center of attention, she is used to being the one that is doted on. I’m not too sure how she would do to have her dad’s attention completely ripped away from her. As it is, it’s already so separated from her. I think she would try to be a good older sister. I think she has the makings of a good older sister, but I think that there might be a little jealousy there.

We’ve really enjoyed watching Alexis’s transformation into a more independent, sassy woman this season. What’s that been like to play?

I’m glad that we’re doing it now instead of earlier because I was really worried if we did it too soon it would just be, well, too soon. So I think we’re at the right moment where she is kind of pushing back and deciding to do her own thing. She’s stumbling and she’s falling, but you know, Alexis, she’s always picking herself off and dusting the dirt off. It’s a natural progression, which is what I enjoy in the characters I play.

What accounts for Castle and Alexis’s strong relationship on the show?

It’s been great being able to play this strong father/daughter relationship because there isn’t enough of it on TV. It isn’t publicized enough. As a daughter who is very close to her father, it’s great to represent that because daughters do need their dad. What I’ve heard is that it is bringing fathers and daughters closer together and that brings so much joy to my heart. I think what grounds it is that for Castle, Alexis keeps him responsible. In the beginning it was that he has this baby and couldn’t go to jail and be away from it. He couldn’t stay out all night. He did have to be in and take care of her. Even as she gets older, she then is his conscience. She does the guilt trip a bit. They’re both learning off each other. That’s what makes it strong. There isn’t a, “You have to do what I say.” They lean on each other, and that’s what makes it so special.
