Kate Beckett's hair has long been the subject of debate, and more recently, the object of much adoration. But what does Castle actress Stana Katic think of her character's luscious long locks?

"I feel like the character is well-served with the way she is presented right now on the show," she recently told Parade. "She's well-served by being able to be feminine and tough. The whole look is a balance between the hair, the wardrobe, and the makeup."

We couldn't agree more — Kate's outward appearance seems to directly reflect her emotional evolution. And while we understand why some fans call her new, glammed-up image a cop-out (no pun intended), we don't necessarily agree. The subtle shifts in Kate's style and demeanor throughout the seasons have provided essential clues to where her heart is.

"Right now she can let her hair down and show her feminine side and doesn't have to be as buttoned up," Stana explains.

"We get to see other parts of her. She's a little girl, she's a tigress, and she's a warrior. She's insecure and she's indomitable. She's everything. I think showcasing some of those parts make her more believable and more fun to play."

As much as she loves Beckett's long, wavy hair, she doesn't feel beholden to it. For Stana, it's all about telling her character's story.

"I don't feel pressure to keep her hair long," she affirms. "It's more about where the character is."
