Actress Tamala Jones arrives at the Disney ABC Televison Group's 'TCA 2001 Summer Press Tour' at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on August 7, 2011 in Beverly Hills, California
Could we be cordially invited to a wedding on the next season of Castle?! Very possibly, says Tamala Jones who plays resident medical examiner Lanie Parrish. But anyone hoping it’s between Richard Castle and Kate Beckett can abandon that thought right now, as it appears the closest the duo will get to the altar is as best man and maid of honor.
Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Jones at the ABC All-Star Party to chat about Season 4 and Penny Johnson Jerald joining the cast.
Wetpaint Entertainment: New season, new captain. What does it mean for you guys?
Tamala Jones: You know, I’m a big fan of Penny’s from 24, and I think she is amazing! What she brings to this role as the new captain is insane. I’ve never seen such a strong actress really be able to maintain her feminine side but portray the masculine side of having to have authority and putting he foot down, but still remain sexy. It’s indescribable. You have to see if for yourself.
Do you all stare at her with your jaws open?
We all are in awe. I know she has a theatre background and I know she’s done a tremendous amount of great work, but to actually be up close and personal and see her perform and see what she does — the woman is spectacular and she’s an awesome addition to Castle.
She doesn’t particularly like Castle.
No, no. Captain Montgomery was friends with the mayor and Castle was also friends with the mayor so there was that connection, but Penny’s character has no affiliation with the mayor and she doesn’t understand what Castle is doing there in the first place. She’s like, “This is not professional and it’s not going to happen anymore.” So it’s like a tug of war between her and Beckett. And she likes Beckett, but she doesn’t like what she’s been doing. So she’s hard on her.
But the show is still called Castle, so how quickly do we get over this?
Oh, they all fall in love in the middle of it all, but there’s that first tension and I think it’s great the way everyone plays it because you get to see the dynamic between Castle and Beckett and how much they really have each other’s backs.
What about Lanie?
Well, I heard that this season Lanie, Esposito, Ryan and his fiancé are going to have a little tension. And there’s also going to be some tension between Esposito and Castle, because Ryan is not going to be able to make a decision about who’s going to be his best man. It’s a difficult choice because both of them feel like they should be. Esposito, because it’s his partner, but Ryan’s a big a fan of Castle, so how cool would it be to have Castle as your best man? There’s a potential girls’ night out between Lanie and Beckett and we’re all dressed up and sexy.
It sounds disastrous.
It is a disaster! Something happens …
So will we actually see a wedding this season?
I think you’ll see a Castle wedding. Don’t quote me on that, but talking to Andrew before this season started it seemed like a very strong possibility that that’s where he was going. So I hope it does. I’m already on the dress. I’m like, “Let’s get Vera Wang to commit to borrow a dress. We’ll give it back, but it has to be Vera Wang.” So we’ll see.
