Today, January 9, 2012, marks the 13th anniversary of the death of Detective Kate Beckett’s mother, Johanna Beckett.

Johanna, who was taken from us too soon on Saturday, January 9, 1999, was a loving mother and friend. As a civil rights attorney who regularly did pro bono work with a group called the Justice Initiative, Johanna had a huge heart.

Unfortunately, she and her JI co-workers — who were at the time investigating the murder of a federal officer and the man wrongfully accused of killing him — all met untimely deaths.

To this day, Johanna Beckett is dearly missed and her case remains open and unsolved.
