Monday’s Castle was exploding — in both a literal and figurative sense — with compelling moments. Even outside of Castle and Beckett’s several moving scenes, there was a lot of other breathtaking, and totally touching stuff, that went down during Season 4, Episode 19: “47 Seconds.”

Check out the ep’s most powerful moments below:

8. Gates Thanks the Crew

So, we feel a little silly admitting this, but hearing Victoria “Iron” Gates thank her team so genuinely totally tugged at our heartstrings. Awwwah.

7. Castle Turns Down Beckett for a Drink

After solving the case, Beckett invites all the boys out for a cocktail — and they all turn her down, Castle included. In fact, he is horribly cold to her, and leaves the confused detective standing there, alone and dumbfounded. We feel bad for both of them.

6. Explosion in Boylan Plaza

We’re not gonna lie: The aftermath of the explosion in Boylan Plaza wasn’t the easiest thing to stomach. There were hordes of flames, ashes, and bloody bodies. Definitely made us take a step back and feel all warm and grateful for our own lives!

5. Castle and Beckett’s Candid Convo

Not unlike us, C and B were deeply affected by the damage at the crime scene. Back at the precinct, the twosome had an emotional little discourse about the victims. One vic was the first person in his family to go to college, another was a young mother of two.

“Their future, their plans, everything is just gone in flash,” Castle muses, sorrowfully. “It makes you think about those things in your own life that you don't want to put off anymore … " Beckett confesses.

OK, so they obviously weren’t just talking about the poor deceased, but still. Sad!

4. Alexis’ Mini-Meltdown

Alexis (aka Superchild) also showed her vulnerable side. Still interning for the medical examiner, Alexis saw all the dead bodies come in. And she said she was dealing with it well — until she came across a woman with a beaded bracelet made by a little child that reminded her of the one she made her own father. Ouch. Lex tearfully tells Castle the story, and he drapes his around her shoulder and escorts her safely out of the morgue. Like any responsible father should!

3. Martha Stages a Love Intervention

Everybody’s all sentimental about the case, but one moment that really touched us was actually not so sensitive. “Nobody’s tomorrow is guaranteed,” Castle tells his mom, which sparks an impressive, straight-to-the-heart monologue from the red-headed beauty:

“So, what are you going to do with this realization? How much longer are you going to drag your heels before you tell Beckett how you feel — and I mean while she is awake, not lying on the ground with a bullet in her chest?  It’s complicated so you say, but it’s not. It’s not. Nobody’s tomorrow is guaranteed, right? Wouldn’t it be better to tell her when the timing is wrong than never to tell her at all?”

How poignant! Drama really is this woman’s forte!

2. Beckett’s Big Leak

While putting her suspect through the ringer, Beckett unknowingly divulges her biggest secret to the one person it will hurt the most: “I was shot in the chest and I remember every second.”

“All this time. You remembered,” Castle says out loud, almost appalled. Cue our hearts breaking!

1. Martha and Castle Visit the Bombing Memorial

Even more emotional than Beckett’s declaration of remembrance was the scene, where Rick visits the bombing memorial with his mom and concludes that Beckett must think his feelings are a “all a big joke.” “I feel like a fool,” he says, woefully.

Not only is it terribly depressing that mother and son are visiting such a somber place, but add to that the fact that poor Castle really thinks Beckett doesn’t care for him and it’s almost too much to bear. And Martha! Where’s the reassurance? The “Oh, Richard. You know she cares for you. How could she not? You’re so amazing/smart/adorable/dedicated/have the best hair!”? Man!
