If we had a talk show, we'd have Nathan Fillion (Rick Castle) on the program every night. He's a guy who understands the tightrope walk of being a sex symbol — you have to be aware of your sexiness, resist your sexiness slightly, and appeal to fans that don't care about your sexiness one way or the other. Here are 10 quotes that prove Fillion is the master.

10. He's open about his nerd tendencies.
On not understanding his own coolness: "The truth is I'm a dork. I collected comics. I still love cartoons. I'd rather be at home on a Friday night than out at some club… My sense of humor is that of a geek. My likes and dislikes are that of a geek. I've memorized every crappy sci-fi movie there is, but still haven't seen Schindler's List." (Edmonton Journal)

9. He has a sense of humor about his soap opera credentials.
On the tricks of the trade: "A good friend of mine taught me this. They're called the three faces of the soap take. The first one is, 'Did I leave the stove on?' The second, 'I did leave the stove on.' Third, 'No, I turned the stove off.' It doesn’t matter what scene you’re doing. It works for every scene." (The Ellen DeGeneres Show)

8. He tells jokes that appeal to dudes.
On kilts: "Everyone's gonna ask you, 'What you got on under that?' My prepped response is, 'Your mother's lipstick.'" (The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson)

7. He's the first to point out a shortcoming.
On seeing himself for the first time on the big screen: "Man, I could park a Buick in those nostrils." (Edmonton Journal)

6. He makes up his own catchphrases.
On something that's finished, successful, or a slam dunk: "BAM, said the lady!" (Bungie Podcast)

5. He looks on the bright side.
On filming Serenity: "There is nothing like a major motion picture to make you feel a little bit better about having your TV show cancelled." (Nathan Fillion on IMDb)

4. He's straightforward about things guys do that women don't understand.
On his underwear: "Same as every other man out there. They are old, got holes, and worn through to the point of transparency. I occasionally buy new ones but I never throw any away. If a man says he throws out his underwear, he is lying. It's as simple as that. They don't get trashed, they just sometimes fall off or ignite." (Nathan Fillion on movietome.com)

3. He's known great suffering.
On the cancellation of Firefly: "I broke the cardinal rule of don't fall in love with what you're doing, because the rug can get yanked out from underneath you, and when it did, I was heartbroken." (Nathan Fillion on IMDb)

2. He appreciates the special power of a cult following.
On Firefly fans trying to save the show: "It's very Jehovah's Witness. I'm not sure if anyone's actually going door to door, but it's not far off." (Nathan Fillion on IMDb)

1. He reveals just enough a bad boy side to keep your interest.
On what's fun about being the villain: "Being able to be evil. You can't do the evil things that you want to do in real life… You want to be bad every day. You want to do the bad evil things that you can't get away with, and now I'm able to be bad and super strong. It's a fantasy." (Nathan Fillion on IMDb)
