One year ago today, Castle Season 3, Episode 13 “Knockdown,” marked the first ever kiss between Rick Castle and his muse and lady love, Kate Beckett.

Sure, we could argue logistics: It wasn’t a first date kind of kiss, or even an inside-while-snuggling-on-the-couch kind, or even meant to happen. But it was — without a doubt — one awesome highly-anticipated smooch.

During the episode, which aired on January 24, 2011, Kate and Rick pretended to be a drunk couple and engaged in a 13-second, hot-as-hell liplock to distract a guard. And yes, it was just a decoy. But let’s be real: Who cares? They freakin’ kissed. With tongue.

Although it’s yet to happen again in a more natural way, we still deem it necessary to pay homage to the very first exchange of bodily fluids between our two leads (besides, you know, a shared cup o’ Joe now and again).

Despite the circumstances, January 24, 2011 was a very fateful day, and one that will forever remain in our hearts and the hearts of our two beloved characters for seasons to come.

To the the kiss that was, and to all the kisses that are (hopefully) yet to come ... drink to that!
