Spoiler: Will the New Captain Give Castle the Boot?

Penny Johnson arrives at Fox's 24 Series Finale party held at Boulevard 3 on April 30, 2010 in Hollywood, California.

By now we all know Castle’s new captain, Victoria “Iron Gates,” played by Penny Johnson Jerald, is pretty much a hardass. (That name basically says it all, don’t you think?) But now we’re hearing exactly how much havoc the new boss lady will wreak come Season 4. The times they are a-changin’.

Seamus Dever (Detective Kevin Ryan) revealed the new higher-up will hardly fill Captain Montgomery’s shoes. Whereas the precinct (or at least, the small part of it we watch week after week) felt “protected” under Mont’s loose hand, we can’t say the same once Gates takes the reigns. He adds: “The days of Castle being very welcome at the precinct are over.” Uh oh!

Tamala Jones (Lanie) explains further: "Castle had a relationship with the mayor and Captain Montgomery, and [Gates] doesn't have a relationship with the mayor, so some of his privileges might be getting cut. She's a lot harder, a lot tougher.”

And Castle can’t fall back on his usual tricks to win her over. As Nathan Fillion (Castle) points out, Castle is used to charming the ladies as a means to an end. But in the case of Iron Gates, she “will not be charmed.” We believe that!

While we would hate to see Castle leave the 12th precinct, we have an inkling there’s one (little) person who wouldn’t mind.

Molly Quinn (Alexis) says that after her character’s brush with a bullet at Monty’s funeral, she’s more than ready for Castle to call it quits. "Castle's not only risking his own life, he's risking Alexis' life, he's risking her grandmother's life. Alexis just wants him to realize that," Quinn says of Castle’s hazardous side hustle. But despite Alexis’ warning, Castle will still feel he “has to do it,” she says.

OK, we know that part’s true (there’d be no show without Castle at the precinct, right?), but even we hope Castle takes special care to watch his back this season — in the field and back at the precinct.
