Would You Like to See Nathan Fillion in a Derrick Storm TV Spin-Off?
In case you've been holed up in your apartment watching Castle reruns and choreographing interpretative dances to Robert Duncan's "I Just Want You" score, sci-fi mastermind Joss Whedon has been tapped to direct the Avengers sequel as well as a new Marvel TV show for ABC.
Did that get your attention? We thought so.
Although it's still the very early stages of development and ABC hasn't confirmed what the show will actually be about — rumors indicate it will be Avengers-themed — we've already outlined our wishlist for Joss's new primetime project. But now, thanks to an awesome post by AvengersTV.com, we're adding another item to the wishlist: Nathan Fillion.
We honestly hadn't considered Nathan's possible involvement in the new show — mostly because we're hoping he'll be tied up with Castle indefinitely — but the more we think about it, the more we like the idea.
As the author of the post points out, the second installment of Richard Castle's Derrick Storm graphic novel — published, of course, by Marvel — will hit shelves this October. The first graphic novel in the series, Castle: Richard Castle’s Deadly Storm, landed on the New York Times Bestseller List.
For the lay people, Derrick Storm is the lead character in the series Richard Castle wrote prior to the Nikki Heat books. After receiving major fan backlash for killing off Derrick at the end of the series, he resurrected the CIA agent in one his boldest career moves to date, spurring the release of his Derrick Storm shorts as well as aforementioned graphic novels.
The popularity of these comics combined with Nathan's ever-growing notoriety as Rick Castle — not to mention his ties to Joss Whedon (Firefly, Dr. Horrible, Much Ado About Nothing) — all point to one thing: a Castle spin-off.
Would you like to see ABC, Marvel, and Joss Whedon develop a Derrick Storm Castle spin-off? And if so, should Nathan play the title role?
