The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is only six weeks out, but it feels like an eternity. To whet our appetites, however, Lionsgate has released a new TV spot with never-before-seen footage of the eagerly-anticipated sequel.
Much of this new preview focuses on Katniss Everdeen's (Jennifer Lawrence) relationships with spurned childhood best friend Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) and heartbroken ally Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) — as Coldplay's melancholy "Atlas" plays in the background.
We see Katniss bidding farewell to Gale in District 12, naively assuring him that she'll only be gone for a few weeks.
"A lot can happen in a few weeks," Gale says. (Liam could say the same thing about his now-imploded romance with Miley Cyrus, as Wetpaint Entertainment editor Elisabeth Kramer astutely observes.)
Meanwhile, Peeta is tiring of his showmance with the Girl on Fire. "Katniss, we can't go on acting for the cameras and then just ignoring each other in real life," he says.
The clip also shows Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) welling up in tears as she looks at Katniss during the Reaping, holding a slip of paper we know to have Katniss's name. (But damn, girl, your monarch-butterfly outfit is fly.)
Re-selected as tributes for the 75th annual fight to the death, Katniss and Peeta once again do their best wow the Capital crowd, and the clip shows glimpses of the pageantry.
"We have never seen anything like this," raves Cesar (Stanley Tucci) as Katniss reveals her mockingjay-themed dress. "And we will never see anything like it again."
Same could be said of the Hunger Games phenomenon!
