The Hunger Games: New Catching Fire Footage Revealed in IMAX Featurette (VIDEO)
We know you've purchased your tickets for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire already. (After all, they did go on sale today, October 1.) But if, for whatever bizarre reason, you need more convincing, check out the new featurette below — which takes us behind-the-scenes of the second Hunger Games installment and shows off a few tidbits of new footage.
The video hypes how much of the film (which hits theaters on November 22) was filmed with IMAX cameras, resulting in images of much higher resolution which can be displayed on much larger screens.
As Josh Hutcherson explains, IMAX allows viewers to see how meticulously director Francis Lawrence and the rest of the production team adapted the book to the screen. "The scope of the film is just so much bigger this time around," he says. "[Francis] has really put so much attention to detail in so many different areas that matter a lot to me — and a lot of audience members, I think, will really pick up on them as well."
And, as Francis explains, the filmmakers deliberately chose the moment at which the screen goes supersized: "We decided to use the IMAX thematically for the arena. We decided … we're gonna stay 'Scope [the normal aspect ratio] all the way up until the moment she goes into the arena, and then as she's going up that elevator, that screen will open up."
Adds star Jennifer Lawrence: "That is such an incredible moment to choose to go into IMAX — because she's seeing this new world."
