Kardashians Caught Texting During VMAs Moment of Silence (VIDEO)

Following a thoroughly unpleasant interaction with a comedian in blackface during Vienna’s Opera Ball, Kim Kardashian railed against the evils of racism, but at the VMAs on Sunday, it seems the topic was far from her mind.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, who attended the event with sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner, was seemingly uninterested in taking part in one of the evening’s more somber moments, when the audience was asked to participate in a moment of silence for 18-year-old Michael Brown, who was shot to death by police officers in Ferguson, MO, after being stopped for jaywalking.

Brown’s death, which has prompted massive civil unrest in Ferguson and beyond, has been decried by numerous celebrities, including Common, who called for the audience to sit in silence and remember the slain teen. However, instead of taking cues from their fellow attendees and following the rapper’s request, Kim and her sisters were caught playing on their phones. It looks like Kim Kardashian: Hollywood is even more addictive than we thought!

While we’ve never expected major displays of activism from this family, fans have been slamming the girls’ behavior at the show and calling for an apology. Thus far, Kim and her sisters have not addressed the controversy, opting instead to promote their latest outfits and endeavors on social media, as usual.

What do you think of Kim, Kendall, and Kylie’s decision to ignore the moment of silence in honor of Michael Brown? Do you think they should apologize for their behavior?
