Sure, Chris Brown was sentenced to stay in jail instead of rehab until his April hearing, but it doesn’t mean he plans to follow through with it. According to TMZ, the singer’s lawyer is willing to get Chris out of doing jail time via any means possible — even if it means laying down some serious cash.

Chris was discharged from the Malibu rehab center he’d been receiving treatment at since November for mocking other patients and making some troubling statements about guns and knives during a group therapy session, and now he faces the consequence of hanging out in a cell until he can be tried for violating his probation in the Rihanna case.

But sources close to the case say that lawyer Mark Garagos is in talks with the man who claims Chris assaulted him (leading to the violation of his probation) to find out if there’s any way he can pay him off to get him to agree to a civil settlement. Supposedly, if the man hasn't already agreed, sources expect him to within the next couple of days.

So what does that mean? The man would tell the court he’s not interested in pursuing the case any further… and Chris would get to go home, a little lighter in the wallet but no worse for the wear.

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time… or write a check that makes the whole thing go away.
