Original story (April 25, 2014): Did Pee Wee go from "Cat Daddy" to cat burglar?
TMZ reports that the rapper — whose group The Rej3ctz popularized the "Cat Daddy" dance with their 2011 hit single of the same name — was arrested early this morning, April 25, for allegedly stealing "personal items" at the 1Oak nightclub in West Hollywood, CA.
A source tells the site that Pee Wee — whose real name is Jovan Clayton — nabbed alcohol and the contents of a purse. After a witness called 911, L.A. County Sheriff's deputies arrested him on the scene. They're currently holding him on $20,000 bail.
The Rej3ctz broke out in the California music scene and enjoyed nationwide exposure when model Kate Upton performed a scantily-clad version of the Cat Daddy during a shoot with controversial photographer Terry Richardson — who then uploaded the footage to YouTube.
Terry's original video — uploaded in May 2012 and banned briefly by YouTube — currently has close to 20 million views.
The Rej3ctz released "Cat Daddy" on their one and only mixtape, 2011's TheFUNKtion vs. theKICKback. (A "cat daddy," FYI, is defined as a male "cougar," essentially.)
Hopefully Pee Wee can get this legal matter cleared up and go back to entertaining us with more beats and more viral dance moves!
Update (July 7, 2014): TMZ now reports that Jovan has been charged with three felonies regarding receiving stolen property — and that he has pled not guilty to each count.
Update (July 13, 2014): Here's the verdict: According to TMZ, since Pee Wee agreed to plead no contest to one count of receiving stolen property, the judge sentenced him to 120 days in jail. In exchange, prosecutors dropped two other counts. Pee Wee will also be on probation for three years and has to pay back the purse-snatching victim. It's always good when they remember the original victim of the whole thing! TMZ added that Pee Wee has until August 18 to surrender to police.
