The long, bumpy ride is sadly over for one celeb and his wife after she stayed by his side during his very public sex scandal.
Former New York governor Eliot Spitzer — who resigned the position in 2008 after news leaked that he had been involved with prostitutes — and his wife of 26 years are getting a divorce, according to People.
Eliot, 54, and wife Silda Spitzer, 55, have three adult children — Elyssa, 24, Sarabeth, 21, and Jenna, 19 — and have reportedly been living apart for several months. The couple is said to be worth a cool $1 billion.
"We regret that our marital relationship has come to an end, and we have agreed not to make any other public statement on this subject," says the couple's spokesperson.
Silda had remained with her husband following the sex scandal five years ago that led to him resigning as governor. Eliot has reportedly been dating 31-year-old Liz Smith, who worked as the spokesperson for his unsuccessful 2013 campaign for NY comptroller.
Eliot began hosting the TV show Viewpoint with Eliot Spitzer on Current TV in spring of 2012. The show was canceled in January 2013.
Are you surprised that Silda remained with Eliot after his prostitution scandal?
