Robin Thicke and wife Paula Patton may be separated for now, but if Robin has anything to do with it, they won’t be apart for long. When TMZ caught up with Robin as he arrived in Washington DC Thursday for a concert, he didn’t beat around the bush when he told them — in pretty good spirits, we might add — that he’s “just trying to get her back.”

And according to what a source close to the couple has to say about the situation, a divorce ending their almost nine-year marriage may never actually come to be.

“Who knows what will happen?” the source told People. “They do love each other. They are very good friends and will continue to be as strong and as good friends as they can be.”

Which is awesome for their 3-year-old son, Julian, but we hope it’s not giving Robin false hope about the likelihood of his marriage being put back together. We can’t blame a guy for trying, though. Because of Julian, the couple will never be out of each other’s lives completely, so it’s a good thing that they’re able to move past their differences in the interest of preserving their friendship.

“I can truly see them being the best of friends no matter what happens,” the source added. “They still admire each other. She’ll always be his biggest fan and he’ll always write songs about her and put her on a pedestal.”

Robin canceled three dates of his “Blurred Line” tour, supposedly to work on getting back in Paula’s good graces, and resumed the tour last night.
