UPDATE: According to TMZ, Michael Strahan was blindsided by the announcement — not that he and Nicole Murphy were ending their engagement, since the split had reportedly been a long time coming, but by the timing of the public reveal. The split announcement came right as Michael was being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame, and his friends think Nicole or someone in her camp was trying to rain on his parade. Michael supposedly had no plan to announce the split before his big event over the weekend, and the story came out right as he was receiving his honor. But hey, at least he had something positive to focus on during the break-up period. Isn't that a good thing?
There won’t be a wedding at the end of Michael Strahan’s 5-year engagement. The LIVE! With Kelly and Michael host and his now former fiancée, Nicole Murphy, have decided to go their separate ways.
According to a rep statement given to People magazine on August 1, “They love each other very much, but with the distance and work schedule it has been hard to maintain the relationship.”
Seems to be a bad week for LDRs. Earlier on Friday, news broke that Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult have again ended their relationship, citing busy schedules and distance as the major contributing factors.
Michael, 42, began dating Nicole, 46, in 2007 and popped the question two years later. Both previously married, Nicole has five children with her ex, comedian and actor Eddie Murphy, while Michael has four of his own: a son and daughter with first wife Wanda Hutchins, and twin daughters with second wife Jean Muggli.
The split has some pretty bittersweet timing for Michael, too. This weekend, the former New York Giants defensive end will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
Here’s wishing the best for Nicole and Michael! Break ups are never easy, even if they’re as amicable as this one seems.
