We started this week learning Elizabeth Vargas of ABC News was headed to rehab for the second time and the hits have just kept coming. She and husband Marc Cohn are divorcing. The couple, who wed in July 2002, have two sons together, Zachary, 11, and Samuel, 8.
As Elizabeth seeks help for alcohol addiction, Mark, a singer and songwriter, released the following statement wishing his soon-to-be ex-wife the very best: “On behalf of Elizabeth’s family, we are in total support of her recovery and want her to be well.”
Earlier this week, Elizabeth released her own statement, which struck a more somber note. “I feel I have let myself, my co-workers, and, most importantly, my family down, and for that I am ashamed and sorry.”
The longtime journalist first checked into rehab in the fall of 2013. At the time, she revealed she’d become “increasingly dependant on alcohol.” She returned home from the program in mid-November and said she was “so much butter and taking it one day at a time.” Elizabeth resumed her duties on TV the following January and openly admitted she’s an alcoholic.
We hope for the best for Elizabeth and her family as she continues her fight.
