Friends and family will soon say their final goodbyes to Paul Walker. The Fast and the Furious star’s remains were released to his family on the afternoon of December 10, and were then transported to a local mortuary.
While E! News reports the details of the funeral are still being worked out, it sounds like the service will take place this weekend, nearly two weeks after Paul’s tragic passing. The E! source also reveals that friend and co-star Tyrese Gibson is helping to make the arrangements.
It makes sense that Tyrese would be there for his friend’s family. Considering how emotionally overcome he was at the makeshift memorial where Paul and a friend crashed their Porsche Carrera GT, it’s clear that the two were very close. Reportedly, Tyrese has been in contact with Paul’s family since the day after the crash to discuss how to best honor their loved one.
Meanwhile, Paul’s 15-year-old daughter Meadow is said to be “coping as best as she can with the tragic loss” of her dad. We can’t imagine how awful something like that would be, but the source says Meadow is “doing “as well as can be expected” given the circumstances. “She is a little lost right now and is spending a lot of time with her close friends.”
TMZ reports that the funeral service will be an intimate family-only affair, with family including Paul's Fast and Furious family as well as blood relatives. A source close to the family says the reason for the scale of the funeral has to do with Meadow. "They don't want a bunch of strangers surrounding [her], because she needs to feel comfortable to grieve." However, cast and crew are also invited to attend because the family understands they're also in mourning and "the funeral will help them cope."
The source also reveals that a larger memorial will take place at later date, but will also be by invitation only.
