The body of designer Michele Savoia — also known as “The Tailor” — was found in New York City’s Hudson River on February 16, after he went missing late last week. He was 55 years old.

Michele, who started the House of Savoia fashion line, was last seen leaving Paris Hilton’s birthday party at NYC nightclub Marquee in the early morning hours of February 13. His body was discovered on Sunday near his house boat at Pier 59 in Manhattan. Though no cause of death has been announced, cops say that they don’t think any foul play was involved. They believe that while intoxicated, he accidentally fell off the boat.

A suit maker, Michele’s biggest clients were megastars like Robert DeNiro and Ricky Martin, who came to him for his excellent tailoring abilities. He also worked part-time teaching at the Fashion Institute of Design.

“It’s a tragedy. He was one of my best friends for 30 years,” his business partner Felix Rodrigues told New York Post. “He was a talented man. Everyone knew him — he was a crazy s.o.b. If I had to describe Michele Savoia in any way, it would be a red Corvette driving 150 miles down the highway without a driver.”

Michele is survived by his girlfriend, Juli Berg. Our thoughts go out to his friends, students, and family during this difficult time.
