UPDATE: Ryan Seacrest mourned Casey, one of his early heroes, in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter): "It’s a sad day for the broadcasting community and for radio listeners around the world. When I was a kid, I would listen to Casey Kasem’s AT40 show every weekend, and dream about someday becoming a radio DJ. So when decades later I took over his AT40 countdown show, it was a surreal moment. Casey had a distinctive friendly on-air voice, and he was just as affable and nice if you had the privilege to be in his company. He’ll be greatly missed by all of us."

Original story:

Casey Kasem — aka "Mr. Radio," one of the most iconic voices of our time — passed away Sunday, June 15. He was 82.

One of Casey's children, Kerri Kasem, shared the sad news on Facebook, along with the sweet photo shown with her dad: "Early this Father’s Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends. Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken. Thank you for all your love, support and prayers. The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad. With love, Kerri, Mike and Julie."

Casey's career spanned more than 40 years — from the American Top 40 countdown to voicing Shaggy on Scooby Doo and Robin in Super Friends.

Casey had three children — Kerri, Mike and Julie — with his first wife, actress Linda Myers; he also had a daughter, Liberty with his second wife, Jean. Casey had been battling Parkinson's disease since 2006. He was the subject of a bitter final care battle between his older children and Jean. He was ultimately removed from life support on June 12.

Casey’s family feud is unfortunate, but it will never overshadow his legacy, which includes this inspirational radio sign-off to fans: "Keep your feet on the ground, and keep reaching for the stars." Will do!

Casey’s voice — and heart — will be missed. May he rest in peace.
