Original story (10:18 a.m. PST July 11, 2014):
This is definitely a case where we would love to cast a Rennervate spell.
TMZ reports that Harry Potter actor Dave Legeno was found dead in Death Valley on Sunday. Apparently, he had gone on an adventure, but his body was found over the Fourth of July weekend by a pair of hikers in a remote area. The area was so remote, in fact, that a California Highway Patrol helicopter had to be flown in to remove it.
Just in case you’re scratching your head as to who Dave was in the Harry Potter films, the 50-year-old British actor played the werewolf Fenrir Greyback in the last few movies — The Half-Blood Prince and both Deathly Hallows installments, specifically.
The Inyo County Sheriff’s Department told TMZ that Dave died of apparent heat related issues and, brace yourselves, may have been dead for three or four days before he was discovered. The site points out that temperatures in Death Valley this time of year can reach 120 degrees or higher.
Dave is survived by a daughter in her 20s and his body is being held by the coroner while his family makes plans.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this terrible time.
