It’s been less than 48 hours since we learned of Robin Williams’ unexpected death, and many of us are still reeling from the terrible news. It seems as though everyone has their own personal connection to the actor who spent his life making so many of us laugh, but none of us were lucky to be as close to the famed Mrs. Doubtfire actor as his children, Zak, Cody, and Zelda.
And after Zelda posted a touching tribute to her father on Twitter Monday night, the entire family is speaking up about what Robin meant to them in their own official statements — and as you can expect, their heartbreaking messages can only touch the surface of expressing how much they loved their father.
“Yesterday, I lost my father and a best friend and the world got a little grayer,” 31-year-old Zak said, according to E! Online. “I will carry his heart with me every day. I would ask those that loved him to remember him by being as gentle, kind, and generous as he would be. Seek to bring joy to the world as he sought.”
“There are no words strong enough to describe the love and respect I have for my father. The world will never be the same without him,” added 23-year-old Cody. “I will miss him and take him with me everywhere I go for the rest of my life, and will look forward, forever, to the moment when I get to see him again.”
Zelda issued a much longer statement, after asking fans to donate to St. Jude’s in memory of her father earlier on Tuesday.
“While I’ll never, ever understand how he could be loved so deeply and not find it in his heart to stay, there’s minor comfort in knowing our grief and loss, in some small way, is shared with millions,” part of her statement read. “It doesn’t help the pain, but at least it’s a burden countless others now know we carry, and so many have offered to help lighten the load. Thank you for that.”
In addition to the children, Robin’s second wife, Marsha Garces Williams, also offered up a statement about her late husband.
“My heart is split wide open and scattered all over the planet with with all of you,” she said. “Please remember the gentle, loving, generous — and yes, brilliant and funny — man that was Robin Williams. My arms are wrapped around our children as we attempt to grapple with celebrating the man we love, while dealing with this immeasurable loss.”
An “immeasurable loss” is a great way to sum up what we are all suffering from right now. We will miss you, Robin.
