Entertainment legend Joan Rivers died on September 4 at the age of 81, leaving behind a loving family, droves of fans, and who knows how many untold jokes. As we come to terms with those losses, we’re wondering if we’ll soon be bidding adieu to another of Joan’s projects: Fashion Police, the E! series Joan helmed that can make or break a celebrity’s fashion rep.

Shortly after Joan’s daughter, Melissa Rivers, announced her mother’s passing, Life & Style spoke with an insider at New York Fashion Week. The source tells the magazine that the show’s crew were on site at Lincoln Center preparing for the event — and taking photos like this one — when they received word of Joan’s death.

Not surprisingly, the devastating update called for an early wrap to the day. “We don’t know yet what will be in store the next couple days,” the source tells Life & Style. “It’s a huge loss for our team and the industry. It’s really just so sad.”

So far, Deadline has learned E! has decided to put the show on a two-week hiatus, airing two E! From Fashion Week specials in its place. Beyond that, network representatives say, “We will respond at a later date with programming updates.”

Earlier in the day, E! released a longer statement regarding the death of one of its brightest stars. “For decades Joan has made people laugh, shattered glass ceilings, and revolutionized comedy,” it reads. “She was unapologetic and fiercely dedicated to entertaining all of us and has left an indelible mark on the people [who] worked with her and on her legions of fans.”

Fans we’re sure would hate to lose any part of Joan’s legacy, including Fashion Police.
