Jon & Kate Plus 8 has been off the air since 2010, but the once smash-hit TLC reality show is still making headlines. Why? Because the show’s titular mama and papa are still fighting.

Jon Gosselin, who left his family’s reality show two seasons before its end, brought the controversial series back into the public conversation when he told Oprah last week that his eight children have had developmental issues as a result of their time on the series...and in the public eye.

Kate quickly fired back at her ex-husband, insisting that his statements were made based on very “limited” visits with his children in recent times. "I find it very heartbreaking that my children's father chooses a public forum to discuss his current opinions of the 'development' of our children," she added.

Now, in the newest issue of In Touch, Jon defends his choice to leave the show, saying it gave him “freedom.” These days, the father of eight is living in a small cabin in rural Pennsylvania. He pays the bills by waiting tables at a local restaurant, but also does some freelance IT work, product sales, and an occasional speaking engagement.

The kids live with Kate, but Jon says they still visit him at his place. “I live deep in the woods to protect my family’s privacy and provide a normal childhood and refuge for my children where they’re out of the spotlight,” he tells the mag.

The former reality star says he “took the high road” when he left the show, and says he’s very happy with his life. “The kids seem to have everything they need, too,” he says. “They’re very happy when they’re with me. TV was Kate’s choice, and it was her choice to continue with the entertainment industry after I left the show.”

We’re preparing for another rapid Kate Gosselin response in 5... 4... 3... 2..
