Jaime King is a lot of things. For one, she is a model-turned-actress, and currently stars as the high-strung southern belle, Lemon Breeland on the CW’s hit show, Hart of Dixie. Off screen, Jaime is a doting mother to her 8-month-old son, James Knight, whom she welcomed with husband, director Kyle Newman, this past October.
The 35-year-old momma spoke exclusively with Wetpaint Entertainment during the 2014 FIFA World Cup McDonald’s Launch Party in NYC about her baby boy, balancing motherhood and work, and of course, the inside scoop with pregnant Rachel Bilson and Hart of Dixie!
How is your son, James Knight, doing? Has he had any major milestones?
Oh, he’s so good! He’s saying momma and papa and that’s really sweet (laughs). That’s the best part ever.
How do you manage to balance both work on Hart of Dixie and being a mother?
It’s challenging. I always have him with me and he is always on set with me, he has his little nursery on set, so I just bring him with me wherever I go and I treat it like I would with anything else. I do everything that I can to spend as much time as I can with him while I’m working. And I find that I’m very blessed and very lucky to be able to do that.
When you’re not filming, does everyone on set bond with James Knight?
Oh yea, it’s pass James Knight around the set, it’s always that way. It’s really sweet.
It’s so exciting that Rachel Bilson is expecting! Will Hart of Dixie do the same thing they did with you and film until her last day?
You’ll have to see! It’s going to be so good!
Can you give us any hints as to what fans can expect for season 4 of Hart of Dixie?
It’s going to be really amazing because it’s going to be a lot of the original love stories, and that’s something that I’ve [been] wanting for a really long time and [so has] the rest of the cast. It’s going to be awesome.
How would you like to see your character Lemon evolve in the show?
I think she is consistently fighting against tradition and doing her best to change, and I feel like out of the majority of the characters, she is the one that has evolved and changed the most. That’s one thing that really attracted me to her, so for me, its about her following her heart, and not relying on other people to make herself happy. I would really love it to be where she has more of a connection with Zoe [Rachel’s character], ends up with her true love, and has some sort of rivalry — something to keep it interesting where she can do her usual shenanigans, while at the same time, stepping it up!
Hart of Dixie will return to the CW in January 2015
