It’s been eight weeks since Olivia Wilde and her fiancé Jason Sudeikis welcomed their first child, Otis Alexander, into the world — or rather, he “left the building” (Olivia was the building). While we’ve only caught a glimpse of this little tyke, we’ve been racking our brains trying to figure out who Otis was named after.
During the NYC premiere of Olivia’s new film, Third Person, the proud momma finally gave us an answer! “He was named after Otis Redding,” the 30-year-old actress reveals to People. “I’ve just always been a huge fan. I was a 10-year-old kid with posters of Otis Redding on my wall.”
Let’s take a moment to discuss who exactly Otis Redding is. He’s the 1960s singer behind classic hits including “(Sitting On) The Dock of the Bay,” and “Try A Little Tenderness” — which was sampled in Kanye West and Jay Z’s hit song, “Otis.”
Since Otis’s birth, Olivia has managed to bounce back to work in near record time. In fact, she made her first appearance just 12 days later for the Ms. Foundation Women of Vision Gala in NYC with Jason. Then, six weeks later, Olivia got dolled up for the CFDA Awards. All in a day’s work, right?
But Olivia admits that juggling motherhood with life as an actress is not without its challenges. “It’s tricky! It’s tricky for every mother, and I salute working mothers everywhere. We are warriors,” she said. “Suddenly these press lines are less stressful!”
While Olivia takes her time to adjust to parenthood, she says that she already has a new outlook on life. “The amazing thing about becoming a mother is it snaps everything into focus and really makes you understand what’s important,” she says.
