If there is one thing we never expected Julia Roberts to be, it’s scary. The 46-year-old actress might be well known for her mega-watt smile and her award-winning roles, but to her three children, 9-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and 6-year-old Henry, she’s a momma who loves to scare them.
On June 26, the Oscar-nominated actress paid a visit to the The Ellen DeGeneres Show where she dished about how much she loves giving her kids a fright. “Alright, well here’s the thing, as much as I do not like to be scared...how many moms here have scared your child and they’re so easily scared, and then you get the fever for it?” She asked the audience.
“Just a couple weeks ago — and I had to stop myself because I realized there is something disturbing or like potentially abusive and long-lasting — but the other week, there just was such a golden opportunity,” Julia explains.
“I was going down the stairs, and my oldest son [Phinnaeus] was coming down the hall — it’s so wrong, this proves absolutely I don’t go out enough at all — when he came around, I just jumped down and said, ‘Boo!’ and he sprung out his legs and his arms and went up,” the actress says in between giggles. “I honestly scared the bejesus out of him … You have to stop yourself because...you’re the parent.”
Now, this isn’t the first time Julia admitted to scaring her kids. In 2012, the actress told Ellen how much she gets a kick out of it. Of course, Julia has previously said she needs to tone it down, but seeing as how she is still at it, it doesn’t seem like she’s going to stop anytime soon!
