Hard enough as it is for us to imagine Madonna having a daughter old enough to graduate high school, so it is. The Material Girl’s eldest child, Lourdes, turns 18 this October, by which time she’ll be making waves at her mama’s alma mater, the University of Michigan.
Before Lourdes packs up and heads to the dorms, however, she took some time to reflect on what it means for her to leave high school behind.
“It’s very difficult to wrap my head around because I feel like it’s something I’ve been talking about FOR EVER and it finally happened,” she writes on her blog, Material World. “There also isn’t the ominous presence of another year of high school and test taking up ahead like there usually is when you’re about mid way into the beautiful summer.”
Not that Lourdes doesn’t have fond memories of high school (she already shared some in an earlier post). The week before graduation Lourdes says she attended “the classic party every American teenager goes to despite the really bad music,” aka prom. “Of course I had a beautiful time but I’ll attribute that to the fact that I partied with my awesome friends all night,” she writes. The champagne she “may or may not have had” probably also helped with that.
Congratulations to Lourdes! And also to Madonna for seeing her first fledgling nearly out of the nest.
