Ever feel like you need a guidebook explaining the various odd names of Hollywood’s newest arrivals? Between the Apples and the Blues, the Norths and the Rockets, A-list babies can sound more like a preschooler’s spelling words than something you’d see on a birth certificate.
As for explanations as to why celebs pick the names they do, those are few and far between, leaving us scratching our heads and crossing our fingers little Pilot Inspektor doesn’t get picked on too much on the playground.
That said, Daniela Ruah of NCIS: Los Angeles, doesn’t mind explaining why she and fiancé David Paul Olsen named their first child, born in December 2013, after a body of water.
“I’m Jewish and I wanted something a bit more biblical. My fiancé wanted something that was a little less conventional,” she explains to TV host Arsenio Hall, saying her carpentry-loving husband originally wanted to name their son after a tree.
“I profoundly disagreed with that,” the 30-year-old actress said with a laugh. “I was like, ‘What else you like in nature?’”
And voilà, they landed on River!
