Mothers of the world, stand down! Gwyneth Paltrow has waved the white flag (and it cost $90).
The celebrity mother of two called a truce in her latest entry to her lifestyle website, goop, in a journal entry titled “Ending the Mommy Wars” (this woman has a knack for titles, no?).
“A few weeks ago during an interview, I was asked why I have only worked on one film a year since having children,” she begins, referencing that infamous interview that supposedly had Gwyneth on the record saying moms with a traditional 9 to 5 schedule have an easier time in life.
That’s not what she meant though, says the mama of Apple and Moses. “Film work takes one away from home and requires 12-14 hours a day,” she writes, explaining how she “found it easier on my family life to make a film the exception, and my 9-5 job the rule.” That makes a lot more sense, don’t you think?
Gwyneth wants to take this opportunity to address a bigger issue: “As the mommy wars rage on, I am constantly perplexed and amazed by how little slack we cut each other as women … Is it not hard enough to attempt to raise children thoughtfully, while contributing something, or bringing home some (or more) of the bacon? Why do we feel so entitled to opine, often so negatively, on the choices of other women?”
What do you make of what Gwyneth has to say? Think she’s right on point or not so much?
