We’ve seen a lot of blissfully happy couples in Hollywood this year, but alas, there were also a ton of sad breakups and divorces. Once those papers are filed, it’s usually the stars’ massive homes that are first to go, as they seek out a fresh start in new surroundings. Thanks to our real estate expert friends over at Trulia, here’s a look at a few of the heartbreak homes that made headlines in 2013.
Khloe Kardashian & Lamar Odom
There were two Kardashian family splits this year — the first being matriarch Kris Jenner separating from Bruce Jenner — but only one house on the market so far. (It looks like Kris is holding onto her Calabasas, California estate in Beverly Hills, at least for the time being.) According to a TMZ report, Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom listed their Tarzana, California 7-bedroom, 9-bathroom, 8,347-square-foot home on the private market for a cool $3,995,000 in November. (We’re guessing this means Rob Kardashian, who has lived at the property on and off, is on the lookout for a new place.) By December, Khloe and Lamar’s marriage was officially on it’s way to being over: Khloe is reported to have filed for divorce on December 13.
Camille & Kelsey Grammer
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Camille Grammer likely breathed a sigh of relief when the Beaver Creek, Colorado vacation home she shared with ex-husband Kelsey Grammer finally sold two years after being listed. RHoBH fans may remember the ski spot as the site of the Housewives’ Season 2 getaway. Camille and Kelsey finalized their divorce settlement in December 2012, but it took another year to find a buyer for the luxurious getaway spot. Boasting 6 bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms spread across 8,500 square feet, the house was originally listed for $7.9 million, but sold for $6.6 million.
Charlie Sheen & Brooke Mueller
If these walls could talk, they’d likely have a whole lot to say. Charlie Sheen originally purchased the Beverly Hills home for his ex-wife Brooke Mueller so the twin boys they share would be close. (Charlie lives in the same neighborhood.) But lately things have gotten very, very heated between the former couple, and TMZ is reporting that Charlie wants to offload the 5-bedroom, 6-bathroom, 6,625-square-foot house — and fast. Charlie has apparently listed the home for $4.8 million, which is what he bought it for. Selling for the asking price would leave Brooke high and dry, as according to TMZ, she is legally bound to receive half of the profits of the sale.
Katy Perry & Russell Brand
Katy Perry may have had a rough couple of years — considering her 2011 divorce from Russell Brand — but things are looking up. First off, she’s happily in a relationship with beau John Mayer. And now, she’s unloaded a big piece of real estate that tied her to Russell — albeit for $500,000 less than she was originally asking. The pop superstar bought the 7-bedroom, 9-bathroom, 8,835-square-foot Chateau Marmont estate, which sold for $6.5 million, just before her marriage to the comedian came to an end.
Courteney Cox & David Arquette
Yes, it feels like forever ago that Courteney Cox and David Arquette announced they were done for good. In fact, it was over three years ago that they announced their separation. But it wasn’t until May 2013 that the former couple officially signed the dotted line on the sale of their Beverly Hills property. We don’t know who would want to say goodbye to that pool, but apparently a sale price of $19.5 million was an offer they just couldn’t refuse — especially given they’d been looking for a buyer for the 4-bedroom, 5.5-bath home for two years.
Paul Wesley & Torrey DeVitto
We’re still broken up about the end of the marriage between The Vampire Diaries’ Paul Wesley and Pretty Little Liars’ Torrey DeVitto, but it appears they’re ready to move on in both the love and real estate departments. Paul is rumored to be dating The Originals star Phoebe Tonkin, while Torrey has been seeing pro surfer Carlos Munoz. They’ve also bid adieu to the sweet Hollywood Hills abode they shared — and even made a pretty penny off of it: The 3-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, 3,262-square-foot Mediterranean-style home sold for $754,000 more than they bought it for.
Jennie Garth & Peter Facinelli
Another sad divorce, another home on the market. Just as the ink dried on their divorce papers, Twilight’s Peter Facinelli and Beverly Hills, 90210’s Jennie Garth said goodbye to another part of their life together: their Toluca Lake home. The 8,416-square-foot property has a whopping 7 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms, and sold for $3.99 million. These amicable exes, who were married for 12 years, share three children.
